The Baltimore Region Environmental Justice in Transportation Project (BREJTP) was designed to develop a better process for systematically integrating environmental justice (EJ) into the regional transportation planning and decision-making process. We hope to create a model that can be used throughout the country. To accomplish this task, we have structured the project into three sequential phases:

Phase I - Community Outreach: Determine the key Environmental Justice transportation (EJT) issues affecting regional subgroups and identify methods for reaching the correct segments.

Phase II - Environmental Justice in Transportation Tool Kit: Develop an EJ planning guide that supports interactive exchanges between transportation agencies, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and community residents.

Phase III - Dissemination of Findings and New Tools: Encourage the propagation and dissemination of improved procedures through academic curriculum, technology transfer and peer exchange.

On this website you will find a chronologically compiled list and status of the different projects taking place in our region along with other useful and important information. Through these projects, we hope to unite Baltimore citizens interested in working together to improve the impact of governmental decision making on low income and minority communities. Collectively these projects are concerned with:

  • Public Participation
  • Access to Quality Transit Service
  • Pedestrian Safety
  • Air Pollution and Congestion
  • Equity in the Planning Process

This a work in progress, so please excuse our dust as we continue to develop the Environmental Justice and Transportation Toolkit and other resources on the website.
